Hada Labo is a Japanese skincare brand owned by Rohto Pharmaceutical, known for its hyaluronic acid hydrating lotions. In Australia it has an official website and the brand says its Australian range is sold through Priceline and Adore Beauty, with Japanese versions available from specialist shops.
Hada Labo is the skincare brand of Rohto Pharmaceutical, a Japanese company the brand says was established in 1899. The brand launched in Japan in 2004 with a deliberately simple approach, leaving out fragrance, colourants and mineral oil. The name translates as "skin lab", and the brand says its focus is giving skin "just what it needs, in the right amount".
Its signature is hyaluronic acid. The Japanese Gokujyun line pairs several types of hyaluronic acid, and Rohto says the line was the first cosmetic to use a lactic acid bacteria and hyaluronic acid ferment. The Australian range, sold as Hada Labo and Hada Labo Tokyo, centres on "Super Hyaluronic Acid", a blend of hyaluronic acids of different molecular weights.
Australian shoppers will see two ranges: the locally sold range on the official Australian website, and Japanese Gokujyun and Shirojyun products imported by specialist shops. Packaging and formulas differ between the two.
